Benefits of Two Way Radio Multi Chargers

Two-way radios are a necessary communication solution for companies in many different industries, who benefit from the use of two way radio whether in retail, security, education, construction etc. Two way radio communications allow a workforce to function seamlessly while enabling a safer work environment.

Many accessories enhance a two way radio system, including headsets, speaker microphones, batteries, cases, and chargers but really effective are multi-chargers if you have a moderate to a large fleet of two way radios.

Extending your radios life with larger teams is crucial to reliable communications. Multi chargers (sometimes known as multi-unit chargers or simply six way chargers), allow multiple two-way radios to be charged simultaneously. So when a handful of radios need to be powered for a new shift they can easily be organised and accounted for as they charge together.

Multi-chargers provide a location for storing multiple radios when not in use. This help eliminate that someone might need to track down or locate a misplaced radio. When choosing a multi charger for your fleet of two way radios, check to see if you are purchasing a fast charger. Slow chargers may take up to 12-14 hours to charge a battery whereas a fast charger can do this in just 2-3 hours.

Another benefit of this radio accessory is socket management. With one mains lead to handle six radios, you do not need for six single unit chargers occupying six plugs in different areas.

Icom Multi-Charger Options

There are three types of multiple chargers for Icom radios:

1. Dedicated Multi Charger
This is a multi-charger designed explicitly for a radio, such as the BC-214, which charges six radios using a specific charging adapter according to the radio size and rating. The BC-214 charger is one of Icom's most popular multi-charger and is used by most of Icom's current range of commercial two way radios, with the relevant adapters.

2. Interconnectable Multi Charger
Icom now supplies a multi-connectable rapid charger such as the BC-202IP3L multi-connectable fast charger for Icom's range of IP/LTE radios and selected Amateur radio products. The BC-202IP3L charging pod can not only be used to charge one radio it can also be connected to form a multi-charger with a combination of 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 pods. Simply sliding off each pod's sides, you can connect them together in a daisy chain via pin connectors on each charger, providing a strong, sturdy product.

3. Flexible Multi-Charger
Then we have a flexible solution like our UK6WAY multi-charger which is a highly robust unit that utilises the charger pods supplied with the handheld from the latest Icom radios, thus, keeping the cost down.

Things to Look for when Using a Multi Charger

Things to Look for when Using a Multi Charger When utilising multi chargers, however, it's important to understand how to use this accessory properly:

1. Do not overcharge your battery.
When you overcharge a two-way radio battery it depletes the life of the handheld and over time makes it more difficult for that battery to hold a charge.

2. Do not charge the radio while in the on position.
A common error in utilising two-way radios is charging while the handheld is still powered on. Not only is this not healthy for your radios, but your battery is less likely to reach a full charge and maintain that charge.
