Can my Icom IC-A6E or IC-A24E Aviation transceiver be modified to 8.33 kHz channel spacing?

Cosmetically, the new versions of the IC-A24E with VOR, and its com-only counterpart, the IC-A6E are identical to the older versions. However, inside these new versions, the electronics have been significantly redesigned to allow 8.33kHz compatibility as well as to improve overall performance. Therefore is not possibly to modify the older version of the radio for use on 8.33kHz.
