EU Directive - Ni-Cd Battery Import Ban

Since 26th September 2008 an EU directive has banned ALL manufacturers/distributors from importing Ni-Cd batteries into Europe.

Alternative types of battery for current Icom equipment have been available for some time, so there should be no problem in finding a substitute. Unfortunately, for older equipment where Ni-Cd was the only type of battery available, replacements may not be available.

Official information regarding this new legislation can be found here

https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=LEGISSUM:l21202

Please dispose of your Ni-Cd's safely. Most municipal recycling centres have facilities for the disposal of batteries, and you may also be able to leave the defective batteries with your replacement supplier for disposal.
