EU Directive - Ni-Cd Battery Import Ban
Since 26th September 2008 an EU directive has banned ALL manufacturers/distributors from importing Ni-Cd batteries into Europe. Alternative types of battery for current Icom equipment have been available for some time, so there should be no problem in finding a substitute. Unfortunately, for older equipment where Ni-Cd was the only type of battery available, replacements may not be available. Most municipal recycling centres have facilities for the disposal of batteries, and you may also be able to leave the defective batteries with your replacement supplier for disposal.
