French Red Cross choose dPMR (digital Private Mobile Radio)
Working with Icom France, the French Red Cross (Croix-Rouge Française) has positioned itself at the leading edge of radio technology by choosing the dPMR™ (digital Private Mobile Radio) standard as its radio communications interface. Michel Devret, ICT Officer for the French Red Cross explains, ‘our organisation deploys 1,600 mobiles and 3,700 handheld radios with 160 repeaters across 62 counties. We decided to migrate to digital technology because of the benefits it offers including GPS positioning, data transmission, improvement of audio etc.’ He added, ‘previously, large amounts of money has been invested in the analogue radio network and it is important for the Red Cross to be able to continue to use those radios, integrated as much as possible with a new digital two way solution. Needs differ from county to county and the capacity to schedule a transition from a simple network as well as complicated systems, was an important consideration when making the decision to migrate. With analogue radio it had been very simple to set up a network – and the team found the same advantage with dPMR within this transition.’ Michel said, ‘Icom France has designed a user friendly interface for our radios that has made it very easy and convenient and which is helping the dPMR migration progress well without any difficulties.’ Ian Lockyer, Marketing Manager of Icom UK Ltd said, ’this is an example of a large organisation choosing dPMR to provide a straight forward transition from analogue to digital radio. If you are an organisation that is looking to migrate to a digital two way radio system, speak to our team at Icom UK.' Icom UK Marketing - marketing@icomuk.co.uk20/02/2014
