ICOM UK Supports The National Herne Bay Bass Festival 2008
With rods raised and teeth gritted, the entrants to the 2008 Herne Bay Angling Association Herne Bay National Open Bass Championship were full of concentration and determination as the 3-day beach and boat competition got underway. Sponsors ICOM UK once again provided the prizes for the event and a free afterparty BBQ for the anglers. The three day competition began on Friday July the 25th, with many competitors beginning their weekend’s fishing at the starting time of 5am. There were 105 entrants this year, which incidentally is the number of years that the Herne Bay Angling Association has been open to local anglers. There were 23 bass brought to the scales this year, including 2 caught from the shore. Five of the bass caught at sea were over 10 pounds in weight, with the winning bass caught by Matthew Sargent, weighing in at an impressive 13.44lbs. ICOM UK presented him with the first prize of an IC-M505 VHF/DSC Marine Transceiver. Ian Lockyer, Marketing Manager commented, “It was great to be involved again with the Herne Bay Bass Festival, especially with the excellent weather and the high number of competitors. It was great to have an even closer association with this event this year with Laura Beavis from our Marketing department taking part. It was a shame that she didn't catch anything, it would have been the icing on the cake!” The winners are as follows: •Heaviest Fish Overall – Matthew Sargent 13.44lbs•Heaviest Fish Friday - Stuart Fuller 4.99lbs
