Icom Marketing Manager Takes on Brighton Marathon
Ian Lockyer, Marketing Manager of Icom UK Ltd is to take on the challenge of running his first Marathon at Brighton on 10th April 2011. This is by far his biggest test and will be running in aid of the Kent Association for the Blind (KAB). Ian has already run several half marathons over the past 2 years but 26 miles is completely new challenge for him. He said,’ There are two main reasons why I am running this marathon. Firstly, I want to get the challenge of running out of my system, so that I can go back to being just a social runner. Secondly and more importantly, members of my family have lost their sight so it is incredibly pertinent for me to take up this challenge.’ The Kent Association for the Blind supports sight impaired people to live independent lives. The charity is a major provider of help and support for blind and partially-sighted people throughout Kent, with over 15,000 people using their services. They work with adults, children, people with learning disabilities, people who are deafblind or have other multiple disabilities. As well as emotional support, KAB provides sight impairment registration, assessment of individual needs, advice on benefits and concessions, help with low vision aids, and advice on special equipment and minor adaptations. Training and advice is provided to assist independent living, to help mobility, communication, computer skills, returning to the workplace, and leisure and hobbies. KAB also run courses on cooking and daily living skills, and also produce a free regional news service, Kent Talking News, which is distributed to 2,000 households in Kent.
