Icom Radios Used to Promote Safety at Sea Message
This year at the Southampton Boatshow the RNLI were actively promoting the message of Sea Safety. Two Icom VHF/DSC radios were installed on its stand as part of its remit to provide free advice to boatowners. Keith Colwell, Sea Safety Co-ordinator for Wessex said, ‘ A lot of people are still not comfortable with DSC even after completing their VHF/SRC courses. These radios have provided customers with an opportunity to do a little refresher and to ask our staff pertinent questions that they may have about VHF/DSC protocol. Keith said, ‘ Keith said, ‘ It was great having the Icom IC-M601 and the Icom-MC421 hard wired on the stand since it allowed owners and crew to see the ease and speed of using DSC without raising a false alarm.’ As well as giving general advice on Sea Safety, the RNLI staff handed out a free interactive CD with lots of practical advice about being Safe at Sea. The comprehensive CD is aimed at a wide audience who owns Sail Boats, dinghies, Sportsboat’s, PWC’s, motorboats and RIBS. Jon Brooks, Marine Dealer Manager of Icom (UK) Ltd said,’ As a radio manufacturer we are fully behind the work that the RNLI is doing in promoting the message of good safety practice at sea.
