M1GEO, UK Winner of D-STAR QSO Party 2015

M1GEO, UK Winner of D-STAR QSO Party 2015

George Smart M1GEO was one of the lucky winners of the recent D-STAR QSO Party 2015. He recently received his prize of an ASUS MeMO Pad 7 tablet from Ian Lockyer, Marketing Manager of Icom UK Ltd. George got into D-STAR a couple of years ago. He said, 'D-STAR was a good way to speak to people on air as I had trouble finding anyone on the local FM repeaters. I read about D-STAR in the magazines and thought it was time to try it.'

Since then George has set up his own new D-STAR digital voice repeater, GB7KH, which is stationed in one of the most unusual locations, Keveldon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker. The repeater covers the area around the M25 and south east of the UK.

George said, ‘I was very surprised to be a winner. After I received an email from Icom Japan, I looked onto their D-STAR party page to see my call sign was there. I couldn’t believe it was there. It was the first thing that I have ever won in my life, so I was very pleased.’

Congratulations George. If you want to find further information on GB7KH, visit http://www.gb7kh.co.uk/.
