Visit the RNLI ‘Man Overboard Journey’ at the London Boatshow

The Community Safety department of the RNLI will be spearheading an important safety initiative on their stand at the London Boat show in January. The stand itself will have a theme based around the dangers of man-overboard (MOB) and the team will be taking people through what they have called the ‘MOB journey’.

The journey will start by looking at safety equipment to carry and use (safety lines, lifejackets etc.) through to different means of calling for help (AIS, VHF-DSC etc.) and then finally onto equipment for MOB recovery (John-Buoy, dinghy, throwline etc.) For the interactive calling for help display, the stand will feature live Icom IC-M323 VHF fixed radios.

Jodie Devereux, Community Safety Product Co-ordinator said, ‘We want people to be able to press the DISTRESS button to see what happens in nearby boats, to give people the chance to set off an AIS-PLB and see what happens when they do; who gets notified, how and what happens regarding their rescue. Many people will have some of these different systems on board their vessel but only a small percentage will have ever had to use them.’ We wish the team the very best of luck with this initiative.

To view this hands-on display, visit the RNLI stand E050 next year at the London Boatshow.
