Icom to supply radio comms to the National Three Peaks Challenge
Members of staff from ntl:Telewest Business will be using Icom two-way radios when they take part in the National Three Peaks 24hr challenge later this year in aid of charity. The gruelling challenge will involve climbing the 3 highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis, 1344m), England (Scafell Pike, 978m) and Wales (Snowdon, 1085m) within 24 hours! Icom will supply the teams (both walkers and support), control points and marshals with IC-F15 VHF handheld transceivers to use throughout the challenge. Mobile phone coverage around and on the peaks is limited and cannot be relied upon in an emergency, which is why the organisers decided to use 2-way radio communications. Garth Matthews, Event Director, ntl:Telewest Business said, “Good radio communications is essential for the Health & Safety of the whole event. Icom offered us the best solution available on the market and from past experience I was confident that they would be able to provide us with a reliable and robust service".
