U.S. Forest Service Department Buys 400 Icom IC-A3 Avionic Handheld Radios

Icom America has recently won an order for 400 IC-A3 avionic hand-held radios from the National Interagency Fire Centre (NIFC) in Boise, Idaho. The NIFC is comprised of 6 different agencies; U.S. Forest Department, U.S. Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish & Wildlife, U.S. National Park Services, U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Office of Aircraft Services.

The NIFC are no strangers to Icom equipment. In fact, the IC-A3s were purchased to replace the NIFC's aging complement of Icom IC-A2 handheld radios. Bill Burge, a communications officer from the Idaho Division, said the NIFC bought the IC-A2s 12 years ago and they were so reliable that he would only again consider buying Icom Avionic products, for they were virtually "trouble free". The IC-A3 only works on avionic frequencies, which reduces "duplicity", i.e. - makes communications simple by eliminating extra noise from FM radio, ham radio, and other non-essential communications.
