5 MHz & 7 MHz Band Expansion

Icom are pleased to announce details of those HF radios whose frequency ranges can be expanded to accommodate the changes to the 7MHz band and the allocation of frequencies with the 5MHz band. Below is a list of the radios that can be modified. Please note, that additional sections of the bands may also be affected by carrying out the expansion. Additional transmit frequencies may be enabled and the band edge beeps may not reflect the UK band plan. Performance is not guaranteed on the 5MHz band. If the modification is carried out by Icom (UK) Ltd your warranty will not be affected.

Great care should be taken when expanding the frequency ranges of any radio. When some of the radios listed were designed, the allocations were not within the amateur band and therefore were never considered part of the design requirement.

Icom do not recommend the general broad banding of radio equipment. Radio equipment has a published specification and our equipment is guaranteed to meet and generally exceed its specifications. Broad banding permits the equipment to transmit on frequencies that have not been tested. Receivers may suffer from lack of sensitivity; ATU’s will try to tune on frequencies for which they were not intended; power amplifiers will not match correctly and may radiate spuriously or may even fail.

It is the responsibility of the user to ensure they comply with the licensing requirements. Icom (UK) Ltd will charge £50.00 plus VAT for the modification, this includes return carriage within the UK.
