A WHITE SHARK TO KEEP YOU SAFE

A WHITE SHARK TO KEEP YOU SAFE

Radio communication company, Icom (UK) Ltd has recently provided equipment sponsorship to Canterbury City Council’s new water safety patrol boat, which will monitor the coastal by-laws and help prevent accidents among water users. The crew of this new boat will be using an IC-M601 fixed VHF/DSC transceiver with dual station HM-134B Commandmic as their primary means of communication.

The 6.96m long White Shark has a single Yamaha 250hp main engine and has been chosen because it is best suited to local sea conditions and offers exceptional crew safety and a high profile.

It replaces the council’s first water safety boat, which has been retired after ten years of service. The new boat is faster, can be launched in weather conditions up to force seven or eight and is able to carry passengers in the event of a rescue or for coastal works and surveys.

Canterbury City Council’s Foreshore Manager, Matt Stickles, said “The White Shark has been built specially for us and we are delighted with it. Its role will be to monitor the council’s by-laws along the 14.5 miles of coastline, provide safety advice to water users and assist, as requested, other official foreshore organisations.'
