IC-F3162/F4162 Series - Advanced Features and a Digital Migratory Path For Commercial Users

Icom is pleased to introduce the new IC-F3162T/S, F4162T/S VHF/UHF Digital Handheld Transceivers. Designed to be used on the new Icom Digital Advanced System (IDAS), the IC-F3162/F4162 series utilises the latest digital technology. Simply plug in the optional UT-126H "IDAS" 6.25kHz digital unit and business users can benefit from the digital clarity, secure communications whilst still running their existing analogue system. This allows businesses to phase new equipment rather than buying a complete new system all at once… an important consideration in these tough economic times.

Four transceivers make up this new range to meet the differing needs of a wide range of users. These include outdoor workers such as construction workers or those who work indoors such as warehouse staff. The models include the IC-F3162S (without keypad) and IC-F3162T for VHF (with keypad) and the IC-F4162S (without keypad) and IC-F4162T (with keypad) for UHF.

The IC-F3162/F4162 series is a durable radio built on an aluminium die cast chassis with polycarbonate casing that meets IP54/55 requirements for dust-protection, splash and water jet resistance. This is a radio that provides reliable operation under harsh weather and environmental conditions.

The radios incorporate 2-tone, 5-tone, CTCSS, DTCS and BIIS signalling as standard. The 512 memory channel capacity with 128 zones allows users to store a variety of flexible channel groupings. Other features include a large (32 mm X 18 mm) full dot-matrix LCD screen that can display up to 24 characters on two lines, and the inversion-type voice scrambler adds a high level of security. In addition, the BTL amplifier produces the best in radio sound by increasing audio output, while the built-in compander makes for clear, low-noise communications.

A 'lone worker' function can be used as an alternative for the 'man down' function. When the radio is not operated for a preset period, the radio sounds a beep requiring the user to push any button. In the event that a button is not pressed, an emergency signal is automatically transmitted and informs co-workers or a dispatcher that something may have happened to the individual worker. The IC-F3162/F4162 transceivers are supplied with a 2000-mAh Li-ion battery pack and fast charger as standard. All models come with a 2-year warranty.

Ian Lockyer, Marketing Manager at Icom (UK) Ltd said, 'This is the latest entry in what we believe is a formidable commercial digital product line-up. Having so many advanced options available including the migratory path to digital, I believe that the IC-F3162/F4162 series will become an important part of many professional organisations' integrated communication policy.'
