Atlantic Dash Team Complete Atlantic row

Two British Firefighters, John Haskell and Jamie Windsor, who form the ‘Atlantic Dash’ rowing team have been successful in their epic quest to cross the Atlantic in a rowing boat. Icom UK supported their crossing in the Atlantic Challenge Rowing race by supplying their rowing boat with an MA-500TR Class B AIS transponder, IC-M505 VHF/ DSC transceiver and IC-M23 buoyant VHF Handheld.

The firefighters had estimated it could take them up to 70 days to complete the crossing. The boat could not be allowed to drift so at least one of them had to be rowing at any given time. After months of training in Cardiff Bay they set off on 5 December 2011 and arrived in Barbados at 07:21 GMT on Friday 20 January 2012. They had spent 45 days, 19 hours and 21 minutes at sea and travelled 2,615 nautical miles.

John and Jamie rowed their hearts out for several worthy causes. Their voyage was to raise awareness and over money for 4 charities The Firefighters Charity; Help for Heroes; WRVS (Women's Royal Voluntary Service) and Breast Cancer Care. To date the duo has raised £23,783.13.

Ian Lockyer, Marketing Manager of Icom UK Ltd, said, ‘we would like to send John and Jamie huge congratulations to them both on their outstanding achievement."
