Catch £10,000 with Icom UK at the Herne Bay Bass Festival

Icom UK is providing a huge catch as part of its sponsorship of this year’s Herne Bay Bass Festival. Icom will be offering a huge prize of £10,000 to whoever catches the largest bass over 20 lbs off the shores of Herne Bay during the festival. The company will also be supporting the event by providing prizes for all the other competition running over the three days of the festival, to be held between 8th -10th July 2005.

Speaking about Icom’s involvement Paul Cartwright, Herne Bay Angling Association (HBAA) chairman said, ‘as one of the oldest Angling Clubs in Europe, the HBAA is delighted to be associated with Icom as a sponsor of the National Bass festival. This competition now in its 16th year was introduced after the capture by Paul McEwan in 1987 of the British rod caught record bass. The fish weighing 19.72lbs still stands as the record and is proudly displayed in the association’s headquarters. The rules of the competition are very simple, it is the biggest fish that wins.’

He went on to say, ‘The festival is a hugely popular event both with anglers and the general public alike. Herne Bay waters are relatively safe and the fishing, particularly during the spring and summer is excellent. Lets hope that 2005 proves to be another good year and the £10,000 prize for the largest bass over twenty pounds caught during the festival is won.’

Icom UK was originally founded in Reculver Road, Beltinge thirty years ago and has been actively involved in supporting projects and events in the Herne Bay and Whitstable community over the years. Ian Lockyer, Icom Marketing Manager said, ‘We are especially proud to be involved with the HBAA and this prestigious festival. Icom have been manufacturing Marine radio equipment for the last 20 years and there is an obvious link with the fishing community. We are all looking forward to the festival and some of us are looking forward to a few days fishing in the name of work!’
