How do I eliminate "noise" from my marine radio?

First, disconnect the antenna and see if the receive noise is still present (do not transmit when the antenna is disconnected). If the noise is still present, it is probably entering through the DC power line. To eliminate this source of noise, try installing a DC noise filter (capable of pulling the Amp rating necessary to transmit), available from many electronics stores. For noise entering through the antenna, you'll need to track down the source of the noise. First, power off all the electronic equipment in your boat, including inverters, refrigerators, and fluorescent lights. Disconnect from shore power.

Next, begin returning power to each piece of equipment one at a time.

Once you find the source, try to isolate the noise by using better RF shielding or grounding, or by relocating the radio, antenna, or device.
