ICOM UK and Ears Plc Support “The Bandit” Through To Powerboat Victory

ICOM UK celebrates the success of “The Bandit” at the Round Britain Offshore PowerBoat Race 2008, after they thrashed the competition to come first in the RB2 class. ICOM UK had provided the team with VHF communications throughout the event.

The first Round Britain Offshore Powerboat Race in 24 years came to an end, with “The Bandit,” sponsored by ICOM UK and Ears Plc , finishing first in their class and claiming the B.P.R.C. Trophy. Over 50 Powerboats competed in the event overall, and “The Bandit” was up against 4 experienced powerboat crews in the Sports/RB2 class, but they raced ahead, winning their class and finishing the race in an admirable 30th place overall.

It wasn’t all plain sailing, as the team had to overcome technical difficulties in the sixth leg of the race. The team of Watford based taxi drivers aboard “The Bandit” disappeared in a cloud of spray when it ploughed into a wave. The impact caused some damage and subsequently the crew had to turn back. All the problems were resolved though, as the team went on to win!

The team of four powerboat amateurs were supplied with an IC-M411 waterproof DSC/VHF marine transceiver, via EARS PLC for the duration of the event. Two members of the crew were already familiar with the ICOM products provided for “The Bandit”, as they own two respective taxi companies; both of which use ICOM communications via Ears Plc across their fleets.

ICOM UK would like to congratulate the Bandit team on their success!
