Icom Excel at the London Boat Show

The organisers of the world famous Collins Stewart London Boat Show used a sophisticated radio system provided by Icom help ensure the smooth running of the four week long event at ExCel, London earlier this month.

National Boat Shows Ltd decided that a trunked radio system would be the best option to ensure complete coverage within the ExCel venue and surrounding areas including the Dockside. A trunked radio network is an intelligent radio system that uses a control channel to assign communication channels for individual or group calls between users. This greatly increases the chances of being able to make a successful call on a congested system.

Over 50 IC-F44MPT Multi-channel VHF handhelds were supplied by Icom. The radios were in constant use by security and operations teams throughout the entirety of the show.

Murray Ellis NBS Director of Operations said, “We chose a trunked system to ensure coverage throughout the entire venue. Due to the nature of the building and areas needed to be covered with conventional handheld radio systems there can be coverage blackspots. However, with this system we were confident that communication at all times was covered and as proven we did not encounter any problems throughout the event ”.

He went on to say, “We chose Icom as we have used their radios at our Southampton Boat Show and they’ve always been reliable. It is essential that we can get hold of people when we need to and the Icom trunked system allowed us to do just that.”
