Icom Marine VHF Radio Checklist

A simple set of tips to make sure that you use your marine radio is more efficient and enjoyable.

• Check that your VHF radio is turned on.
• Check your Squelch setting to avoid unwanted background noise.
• Make sure your volume is set to enable you to receive transmissions.
• Ask for a radio check with a colleague before you start your shift.
• Make sure all transmissions are brief and to the point.
• To help save battery life, use low power.
• Use channel 16 only in an emergency.
• At the end of the day, rinse radios under fresh water to wash off saltwater/residue.
• After cleaning and drying, add silicon grease or Vaseline to battery contacts and make sure your radio is returned to charge.
