Icom Radios supplied for BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend

Europe’s largest free entry music event, BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend marks the opening of the British festival season and attracts a massive 40,000 people to enjoy some of the biggest names in UK music. Icom dealer EARS plc provided the events company who managed the festival with a large quantity of IC-F25s for use throughout the weekend of the 9th –10th May.

This year’s BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend was held in Lydiard Park, Swindon and hosted some of the UKs most celebrated artists across four stages. The event was headlined by The Prodigy, Snow Patrol and Lilly Allen, with a number of local unsigned bands also performing to the 40,000 strong crowd.

EARS plc were approached at short notice to provide the festival with reliable communications; Icom’s IC-F25 commercial handhelds were chosen as the best solution for the event. With 4 arenas to manage and a large crowd to direct on site, the IC-F25s were vital to ensuring smooth communication across the festival site.

Lauren Harris, Marketing and Advertising Executive at EARS Plc commented, “The IC-F25s that we supplied fulfilled the needs of the crews by providing clear, quality voice transmissions, even when used with headsets next to the stages! As 40,000 people were expected for the event the IC-F25s were also necessary to co-ordinate arrival and departure from the site and to maintain emergency stand-by teams.”
