Icom Support Sponsored Pedal and Ride

Radio Communication Company, Icom (UK) Ltd are sponsoring the third annual sponsored Pedal and Ride in aid of Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS). The event which will be staged on Sunday 29th October 2000 at Hall Farm, Bridgham, Thetford, Norfolk hopes to attract cyclists horse riders, carriage drivers, walkers and dogs to cover a variety of courses. In the past two years the Pedal and Ride has raised over £9,000 for the PDS.

There will be three classes of competitors in the Pedal and Ride - 8-11 years, 12-17 years and 18 years and over. Routes vary from 4 miles for walkers to 30 miles for carriage drivers and people can start their route between 9.30am and 2.30pm. Entry fees will be charged and a minimum sponsorship of £5.00 will be due from each participant. Refreshments will be available all day, kindly provided by the 'Bunch of Grapes', and a raffle will run all day. Prizes will be awarded to the cyclist, rider and driver who raises the most amount of sponsorship in each class. As part of their sponsorship, Icom (UK) Ltd will be supplying each Marshall with a handheld radio to help co-ordinate the event. The company has also supplied raffle prizes from its new corporate collection.

All funds from the Pedal and Ride will fund the work of the PDS. The PDS has over 26,000 members and helps people with Parkinson's and their carers through providing support and advice disseminating information.

The PDS funds research into the cause, cure and prevention of Parkinson's and improvements in available treatments. There are more than 120,000 people in the UK who have Parkinson's, a chronic, debilitating and currently incurable condition. Plus and around 1 million live with Parkinson's as partners, family members and friends.
