Icom make waves at LIBS 2001 Stand No. 238B

Radio Communication Company, Icom UK Ltd will be once again showcasing its latest range of communications products at LIBS 2001. Highlights to look out for will be the launch of the IC-446S licence free transceiver, some very special guests, great show offers and of course the company's outstanding range of award winning transceivers and receivers. This year the company will be putting a particular emphasis on the subject of Digital Selective Calling (DSC) with a significant part of its stand dedicated to the subject. All this can be found on Stand No. 238B at Earl’s Court from the 4th to the 14th of January 2001.

VHF & DSC is a topic that has been on most peoples minds for the past year or more and has raised many questions. To broaden peoples knowledge on the subject Icom have decided to adopt the concept and products as its theme for the show.

Icom will have an interactive display of the IC-M501 fixed VHF transceivers and DS-100 DSC controller incorporated into the stand. Icom's expert staff will be on hand to answer any questions about the subject and help customers to get first hand access of these products. Ian Lockyer, Marketing Executive at Icom (UK) Ltd said, "Only by getting hands on experience and actually seeing DSC controllers in action will people be convinced how easy and useful DSC really is. That’s why we have obtained special permission for us to have our DSC equipment working on the stand."

In addition to its latest DSC Equipment Icom will also be showing its full range of award winning marine products. These include the IC-M1EuroV which is the new belt radio of HM Coastguard, the IC-M3Euro budget handheld VHF and the IC-M710 GMDSS MF/HF Transceiver. The IC-M710 was recently used on David Hempleman Adams successful expedition to the North Pole in an open basket balloon. The transceiver's contribution to his success was paramount, as David has said that it was 'a lifesaver' and 'the best comms equipment he had ever used.'

A new direction for Icom will be the launch of the IC-446 licence free handheld transceiver. This is an ideal go anywhere mini-radio, superb for short-range communication everywhere! This new transceiver is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and easy to carry in a handbag or pocket. A foldaway antenna is incorporated into the design to maximise this portability. Water-resistant with a commercial grade construction, this product has received awards from Sailing Today and Stuff Magazine. In addition the US Marines have just purchased 13,000 of these units to use as their Infantry Squad Radio

As well as displaying the great range of marine products, Icom dealers will be having some great show offers of their own. Take the time to browse around the electronics section of Earls Court. Some special guests will also be popping onto our stand throughout the show including members of the medal winning Olympic Sailing team on Press Day at 3.00pm and David Hempleman Adams (dates and times to be confirmed.)

On Monday 8th January 2001 between 10am and 8pm Icom will be incorporating into the show a Radio Amateur Day. The move is being organised because of the high level of interest and visits that Icom receive every year from its Amateur customers at the boat show. Ian Lockyer said, "although this is a Marine show it is surprising how many people we see each year who are interested in our Amateur range. In fact I do believe that there is a significant number of mariners who have a keen interest in the Amateur Hobby." He further added, "There may be one or two surprises for our customers including one of the first opportunities to see the IC-910H UHF/VHF all mode transceiver in the UK." A dedicated team of experts in the field of Amateur Radio will be making the trip from Icoms' Herne Bay office. They will be on hand all day to give advice and answer questions on all aspects of Amateur Radio.
