Icom support Westbere Sailing Opportunities

Icom has donated radio communication equipment to Kent charity, Westbere Sailing Opportunities (WSO). The WSO is set up to enable people with disabilities to experience the fun of sailing.

The donated radios will be used by the safety boat crews, the dinghy skippers and the pontoon manager. Martin Cox Operations Controller at WSO said, “The radios allow us to maintain constant communications in case a problem arises with any of our clients. One of our members, Hilary Lister, who is quadriplegic and can only move her head, will be using the radios with a throat mic with VOX switchgear which will enable her to sail solo and still maintain contact”.

He went on to say, “We wanted reliable radios that are easy to use with good sound quality, so when Icom was recommended we chose to use them. For a vital piece of safety equipment it is essential that we have reliable communications”.
