Icom LTE Radios Keep Riders Connected on 77-Mile Highland Charity Ride
Scottish communications specialists Highland Signals Ltd have kindly provided us with a great story about their support on the 2024 'Bridge to Bridge' cycle fundraiser where Icom LTE communications played a vital role. Inspired by their son's challenges, Heather and Kevin Bannerman launched the Bridge to Bridge event in 2022. Their initiative aims to bridge the gap in healthcare for families of disabled children in the Scottish Highlands by providing critical, hands-on physiotherapy, a service not available on the NHS. Over 150 cyclists from all over the UK took on the challenging 77-mile route from the Skye Bridge to the North Kessock Bridge, navigating the stunning Scottish Highlands. With the help of Icom dealer Willie Macpherson, event safety was managed seamlessly using Icom's advanced radio communication system. The IP503H LTE/PoC handsets and IP501M LTE/PoC mobile radios enabled marshals and volunteers to maintain clear and timely communication, ensuring a secure and well-coordinated event. Organiser Heather Bannerman expressed appreciation for the support, stating, 'Icom's generosity was instrumental in elevating the event's safety standards.’ LTE/PoC radios use mobile networks to provide long range communication with the ease of push-to-talk operation. The units are designed for commercial use, whereby multiple parties can be contacted immediately. The 2024 event surpassed all expectations, raising an incredible £118,938.04 which has been divided among three charities: The Elsie Normington Foundation, The Leanne Fund, and Day 1 Mentoring. The money raised will make a crucial difference to the lives of many and with the 2025 event already in the works, organisers are committed to making the event bigger and better each year. Willie Macpherson (Highland Signals Ltd) commented, ‘With Icom UK’s help we made such a significance difference to the event for all to see’.
