Icom’s Dario Martinez Takes on Charity Channel Swim

Dario Martinez works in the warehouse at Icom UK and will be undertaking a massive challenge by swimming the English Channel as part of a relay team on 24th July 2025. Dario will be swimming to raise money for Aspire, a charity that support spinal injury survivors.

Having worked here at Icom UK for 5 years, Dario is a key part of the daily operations here and his infectious positivity keeps everyone smiling throughout the week. Outside of work however, Dario's great love is swimming.

This passion fuels his involvement both in and out of the water, with his role as an RLSS UK Lifeguard Trainer & Assessor, working at weekends as a lifeguard during the summer months on the beaches of Herne Bay and Whitstable. Dario also volunteers as a RNLI Water Safety Advisor at Ramsgate Lifeboat Station, all this plus open water and pool coaching for multiple swimming clubs in the Herne Bay area.

Dario and his five teammates are now eagerly preparing for the formidable 21-mile journey from the shores of England to France. Their swim will pit them against the cold, the shifting currents, exhaustion from lack of sleep and the unwelcome presence of jellyfish.

Commenting on the event, Dario said, "Swimming has been a big part of my life for many years, I enjoy teaching, coaching and being a part of the swimming community of Herne Bay, but this year I wanted to do something very special. I am doing this to help a fantastic charity called Aspire, that I have come to know and respect, they will be so grateful for any support that you can give me."

Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help and vital support for people with spinal cord injuries. The organisation offers advice and assistance on the journey from injury towards independent living. Their provision of temporary accessible housing, alongside a comprehensive range of advisory services demonstrates their commitment to those in need.
