Keeping Triathlon Events Connected: Icom LTE Radios and Marathon Communications
Organising a triathlon is a mammoth task given the sport's multi-disciplinary nature and extensive course layout. Since the event spans a large geographic area, support staff and marshals need to maintain constant communication to keep the event on track. LTE Radio Solutions to provide a robust and seamless communication network at two large triathlon events in June.
From the scenic South Coast in Eastbourne to the iconic setting of the Windsor Triathlon, June has been a busy month for Marathon Communications. Supporting high-profile triathlons across the UK means that reliable equipment is a necessity, which is why Icom LTE/PoC radio handset were used to cover both triathlons separately.
At the Eastbourne Triathlon,
IP503H handheld radios were utilized to monitor the wide-area cycle course across Beachy Head and Seven Sisters country park. A vast improvement from the previous year, when back-to-back PMR radios resulted in poor coverage.
The Windsor Triathlon saw IP503H sets used to provide comms for the moto marshals and officials, who also used RMS-IP mapping to track the locations of the radios from within the control room. The IP503H’s were also used by the operations team out on the cycle course to manage key junctions and rider safety.
Director of Marathon Communications Emin Akbay said: “The feedback was very positive, with much improved coverage and clarity from the Icom LTE handsets. They will be hiring these radios again later this month for their even bigger Festival of Endurance event.”
