Modification of Equipment to Work on 5 MHz

The Radio Agency in conjunction with the RSGB has made available some spot frequencies in the 5 MHz band for use by Radio Amateurs. You must obtain a Notice Of Variation from the Radio Agency before these frequencies can be used.

Although some Icom equipment with modification will work on these frequencies great care should be taken to ensure no damage will be caused to the output stages and interference is minimised. It is important to note that although equipment can be modified certain models should not be used on the 5 MHz band. It is the responsibility of the user to satisfy themselves they will be operating within the limitations of the Notice of Variation and that suitable antenna tuner units and antennas will be used to prevent damage to the equipment. Any equipment modified to operate outside its design limits will not be covered under warranty.
