ICOM LAUNCH NEW RANGE OF COMMERCIAL ATEX RADIOS

Icom (UK) Ltd are pleased to provide details of new ATEX approved versions of its popular, commercial-grade IC-M87 marine handheld and its compact, waterproof commercial IC-F51 (VHF) and IC-F61 (UHF) transceivers. Available from August 2005, each model has been tested and approved in compliance with European Directive 94/9EC (certified to ATEX level Ex II 2 G EEx ib IIA T3.), for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

All models in this new range are built to rugged MIL STD specifications and are submersible (IPX-7 rating). The radios are extremely compact, so that they are small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. They are supplied as standard with a 1700mAh Lithium-Ion battery providing a practical 13 hours of operating time. An optional ATEX approved waterproof speaker microphone called the HM-138 is available to enhance usability.

The IC-M87 is suitable for use in hazardous areas on land and at sea such as oil rigs, petrol tankers, etc where users require a radio that can operate both on marine but and PMR channels*. This version has a built-in voice scrambler with 32 codes for private transmissions.

The IC-F51 & IC-F61 are waterproof PMR transceivers. Although compact, they still feature industry standard signalling capabilities and voice scrambler function. The IC-F51 series meets the requirements for a tough, waterproof and Intrinsically Safe communications tool for users in hazardous work areas such as oil rigs, areas where flammable gasses or liquids are used, and other potentially explosive environments.

* A separate PMR licence may be required
