Icom communications aid Motorsport team
Icom radio equipment has been used this season by Supersport Team MSS Discovery Racing, the official Supersport Team for Kawasaki Motors Europe. The team has had great success over the season with a number of podium finishes and some record breaking lap times. At the beginning of the season Icom UK donated 9 IC-F31GS handportable transceivers and headsets for use by the team. The equipment has been used by all the members of the team including the team manager, crew chief, tyre technician and the two race mechanics. The radios have been integral in distributing all instructions and information crucial to smooth operation and running a successful team. High noise level is an inherent problem in the motorsport industry; communications can be distorted, misunderstood or just simply not heard. Nick Morgan joint owner of MSS Discovery Racing said, 'Communication is a huge problem in Motorsport mainly due to the noise, distance and the crucial timing involved. Everybody has to be totally aware at all times of the current situation of the Qualifying session. One bad call and you can slide down the leader board within seconds, so clear precise instructions are of paramount importance'. He added, 'For expert co-ordination and communication for the whole team the Radio equipment was absolutely essential. The radios Icom have provided us have been 100% reliable this season and have made our lives so much easier'. He went on to say 'This has been a brilliant year for us at MSS Discovery Racing. We have had a number of race wins, 2 pole positions and 2 lap records. The most notable lap record was at Brands Hatch Grand Prix when we eclipsed the World Supersport lap record by over .5 of a second which was quite an achievement. We had race wins at the Isle of Man TT races, North West 200 and the Ulster Grand Prix plus numerous wins in the Irish Championship'. Icom UK Marketing - marketing@icomuk.co.uk31/10/2005
