Connecting with the Community: Chris Colclough (G1VDP) Visits Silverthorn Radio Club
Our Amateur Radio Specialist, Chris Colclough (G1VDP) recently spent an evening with the Silverthorn Radio Club to share insights into Icom’s history and latest technology. Bringing along the new IC-7300MK2 for a live demonstration, Chris enjoyed the opportunity to talk shop with members, test antennas, and experience the club's excellent hospitality.
‘Shortly after joining Icom UK, I was invited to the Silverthorn Radio Club to meet with members and showcase our Amateur radio range. With the IC-7300MK2 launching so close to Christmas, I decided to wait until the New Year to schedule my visit so I could bring a unit with me. We settled on Friday the 13th, an ominous date, perhaps, but I kept my fingers crossed for a smooth trip!
I arrived early to meet the club secretary Colin and set up the IC-7300MK2 with a projector. After connecting to the club’s antenna, I used the CW decode feature on a 40M German station to run in the background during my presentation on Icom UK’s history and Amateur radio range.
The demonstration sparked significant interest. Many club members, several of whom already use Icom equipment, took the opportunity to test the radio’s features and navigate the menu system. While we couldn't track down any active RTTY signals for a fellow enthusiast to decode, the evening concluded with plenty of insightful conversation and a group photo with the committee.
I’d like to thank the Silverthorn Radio Club committee for their invitation and hospitality. I look forward to visiting again in the future to enjoy their friendly company…and the biscuits!"
