Keeping the Musto iQFOiL World Championships Connected (Video & Case Study)
When the Musto iQFOiL World Championships brought 250 elite athletes from 40 nations to the Olympic waters of Weymouth and Portland, running a safe regatta at speeds up to 35 knots was no simple task.
With racing split between Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay, high coastal cliffs and massive stone breakwaters created major physical barriers for traditional line-of-sight radio comms.
To overcome the challenging terrain, Icom UK stepped in as Official Communications Partner, deploying an 4G LTE / PoC radio solution including our IP-M60 Marine VHF/LTE hybrid handhelds and RMS-IP PC Dispatcher for real-time GPS fleet tracking. The result was seamless, crystal-clear communications between safety RIBs, race directors and shoreside teams across the entire bay.
