GM800
GM800 GMDSS MF/HF Marine Transceiver with Class A DSC
The GM800 MF/HF Transceiver is designed for Class A DSC operation and provides a complete GMDSS MF/HF communication system for Commercial SOLAS regulated vessels. The GM800 meets the UK Marine Equipment Regulation (MER) “Red Ensign mark” as well the Marine Equipment Directive (MED), “wheel mark” requirements for European merchant ships.
Meets UK MER “Red Ensign” and European MED “Wheel Mark” Requirements
The GM800 meets both the UK Marine Equipment Regulation and the Marine Equipment Directive on European marine equipment requirements and has passed rigorous environmental testing and quality assurance processes. The GM800 is designed to provide reliable operation and long-lasting durability under harsh maritime environments. The front panel of the GM800 has IPX7 protection (1 m depth of water for 30 minutes), and the rear panel has corrosion resistant coating. Meets ITU-R M.493-13 DSC
The built-in DSC provides automated distress and safety communication. The dedicated DSC watch-keeping receiver continuously scans the six distress channels in rotation. A total of 100 MMSI members for DSC calls can be stored with a 10-character ID name. The DSC Multitask function shows up to seven DSC procedures. The GM800 is also capable of sending a distress relay call. 4.3 inch Wide Viewing Angle Colour TFT LCD
The 4.3-inch colour TFT LCD provides almost 180-degree wide viewing angle and displays high-resolution characters and function icons. Even when the radio is installed to the instrument panel, the operator can clearly recognise the display information from various viewing angles. The night mode display ensures good readability in low light conditions. Intuitive User Interface
A combination of the directional keypad and soft keys provides simple operation. Most used functions are assigned to soft keys (at the bottom of the display) for quick one push function access. Clearly labelled keypad provides straightforward entry. Space Saving, Remote Head
The GM800 MF/HF Transceiver has been designed to be fitted comfortably on any commercial bridge and blend in with other instrumentation. The GM800 features a waterproof remote head that can be neatly installed on a bridge while the ‘black box’ controller discretely mounts out of the way and out of sight. Provides Loud, Clear Audio
By adopting a new waterproof paper speaker cone, the speaker provides superior sound quality and a flat frequency response with a wide frequency range. Other Features
• Remote Distress alarm
• Printer connector (Centronics IEEE1284)
• IEC 61162-1 interface for GNSS receiver
• 125W* (PEP) output power (tuner-output)
• Built-in 24 V DC-DC converter Please Note: AT-141(#45) GMDSS VERSION MUST BE USED with GM800 for MER/MED certification compliance.

Ships certified as SOLAS vessels need to have radios that meet the strict international radio safety standards known as the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). Merchant ships registered under the European Union must have radios that comply with the EU Marine Equipment Directive (MED) which can be identified with a “Wheel Mark”. GMDSS Class A VHF and MF/HF equipment are an important requirement for vessels, giving ship owners more communication options.
Icom supplies a full VHF and MF/HF solution that meets ITU Class A DSC requirements and European MED 96/98/EC “Wheel Mark” approval for European merchant ships. This short video gives an overview about them.
