Icom sponsor UK team at Rouen 24 hour race

Icom UK is pleased to be sponsoring the UK’s first ever powerboat team to take part in the Rouen 24 Hour Class 1 World Endurance Race for catamarans. Held on the 1st May the race takes place in Rouen, France. and is the premier endurance circuit race in the world.

The team comprises some of the best talent that the UK powerboat racing and endurance eventing has to offer. The four men, Jan Falkowski, John Puddifoot, Dave Field and John Masters have years of experience and hold several records and championship titles.

Asked why the team chose Icom John Puddifoot said, “Communications are vital and the team decided that support from a world leader in this field was essential – which is why we contacted Icom. We want equipment we can rely on to perform in the harshest of conditions”

He added “The IC-M71 VHF Transceivers are being used for communications between the racing drivers, team control and the pit crew. It is vitally important to receive accurate feed back from the drivers throughout the race, as well as observations from the team managers shore side concerning position in race and condition of lights etc. Without the radios, the driver has no way of knowing what is happening to the outside of the boat. Additionally the pit crew need to be able to communicate with the driver to ensure the team is ready when the boat hits the pits”.

The all British team are confident in the run up to the event and are looking forward to the challenge ahead. John said “With two of our drivers currently holding the London Monaco and Round British Isles UIM World offshore records, the team is not lacking in experience and with the support of Icom and other leading specialist marine companies expectations of success are high”. He went on to say “BRP Evinrude, Hellcat Racing and the RYA would like to extend their thanks to Icom in supporting the UK team in this World Championship series”.
