Icom UK, Proud to Support Paralympian Sailor, John Robertson
Many famous sailors make Icom their first choice for Marine VHF radio communications. One such user is Paralympian John Robertson who recently represented Team GB at the London Paralympics Games. John, a keen sailor for 30 years was accompanied by Hannah Stodel (jib trim and tactics) and Stephen Thomas (mainsheet) and represented Great Britain in the Paralympics Keelboat class. Previously the team had represented Team GB at both Athens and Beijing. John and his team have been using Icom radios for the last 18 years and currently use the Icom IC-M71 Handheld VHF. He said, ‘The IC-M71 was invaluable to us allowing us to communicate with our coach in all conditions, letting us pass on relevant information to make training more effective.’ He added, ‘We use Icom as they are the best bit of kit in the marketplace. If they are used by the Coastguard and Lifeboat crews, they must be good enough for us.’ John became the first skipper in the history of disabled Sonar Sailing to helm his crew to back-to-back IFDS World titles in 2005 & 2006.
